History deserves care, clarity and curiosity.

The Armarian's Desk is an independent historical writing practice built around a love of research and the craft of communicating it well.

I hold an MA in History and an MSc in Medieval History. My postgraduate research examined the power and authority of the archbishops of York in Anglo-Norman England, exploring questions of ecclesiastical influence and authority in the medieval world.

My historical interests are broad, spanning the ancient world, the medieval period, and the history of conflict and warfare through to the modern era. My ancient interests include Roman history in particular. Medieval history is especially vast, encompassing Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-Norman England, Viking history, Scotland and Ireland, the Italian city-states, the Byzantine Empire, the Church and the Papacy, and monasticism.

My interest in conflict and warfare ranges from medieval conflicts such as the Crusades to more modern conflicts, including the World Wars and Vietnam. While these are particular areas of interest, I am willing to write about almost any historical subject and can draw on transferable research, analysis and writing skills to approach new topics thoughtfully.

Whether the project calls for accessible public-facing prose or a more scholarly approach, I aim to combine careful research with clear, engaging writing tailored to its intended audience.

Specific project experience, research methods and further biographical details can be added as you decide what you would like to share publicly.
